Description: Novák and Nedbal wrote their sonatas within two years of each other (1891-93/4) and at roughly the same age. Not only that, they are both minor-key, turbulent Sturm und Drang pieces which all the Romantic passion of hot-blooded young men. There is nothing particularly Czech about them as they occupy a typical Germanic late Romanticism but the energy, passion and emotion (a little more introspection in Nedbal than in Novák) make them thrilling examples of the genre. Ivan Zenaty (violin), Martin Kasik (piano).
