Description: Collectors are liable to have the Clara Schumann but the remaining 43 minutes of music are surely first recordings. The Hiller is a three-movements-in-one piece of almost exactly the same length as Clara’s (21 minutes) published in 1871 and those of you who have his three concertos that are part of this series will know what to expect. The other two pieces are in the 11-minute range, Herz’s an ear-tickling charmer (c. 1826) and Kalkbrenner’s an effective, glittering showpiece from 1833. Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra; Howard Shelley (piano).
