Description: Unlike his darker and heavier orchestral music that’s made it to CD, Irgens-Jensen’s sonata, premiered in 1926, is much more in the tradition of Grieg, direct, bright and clear and poetic. Although none of these works has been claimed as a premiere recording, neither of the other two are available on disc right now: Halvorsen’s seven-minute concert-piece, an 1897 piano version of an earlier original orchestral work which no longer exists, and Sinding’s 28-minute, seven-movement suite from c.1918 which is inspired by Bach but up-to-date in melodic and harmonic content. Jonas Båtstrand (violin), Helge Kjekshus (piano).
