Description: If you didn’t already know, there are four different versions of the soloist’s part in Beethoven’s original manuscript and the two editions published in the composer’s lifetime made use of parts of all four; here, Steck, the violinist, attempts to use the original wherever possible (in some places, Beethoven deleted the original line); nothing jaw-dropping or earth-shattering but even the most unlearned listener will notice some things. The coupling is an 1805 concerto by a trusted Beethoven friend and editor of some of his works, Mozartian in form and size of orchestra, less than a third the length of the Beethoven but very attractive for repertoire collectors. Anton Steck (violin), L’arpa festante; Matthew Halls.
