Description: This second Bajoras disc adds to our impression of this eclectic, strikingly original composer whose personal voice is derived from a synthesis of such 20th century styles as neo-classicism, folklorism, expressionism, minimalism and new simplicity with, specifically, echoes of ancient Lithuanian folk music, much of which you'll find in places in these three newer compositions. Symphony-Diptych (1984/93), derived from Bajora's opera Lamb of God uses wind instruments in the manner of Lithuanian singers and speakers; the violin concerto (1998/2001) is capricious and lyrical by turns and Exodus I (1991/94) uses an extensive percussion section to create a veiled, ethereal atmosphere. Rusne Mataityte (violin), Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra; Gintaras Rinkevicius.
