Description: Not just pianists transcribed Wagner for their concert usage. Here we have two famous concert violinists, less famous now than then, doing what might be expected but what about Raff? He had criticized Wagner as a composer and, especially Tannhäuser; yet he must have liked something about it since here he is writing a 13-minute piece based on motifs from that very opera. Two of the five Wesendonck transcriptions are Wagner’s; the notes are silent on the others... Gerald Schubert (violin), Bernadette Bartos (piano).
