Description: Speer sets texts from his above-named publication telling of his teenage days as an army drummer and bugler in the Austro-Hungarian wars againist the Turks. The character is that of the “wise fool” who survives some pretty fictional adventures by means of his quick wit. Fragments of dance music (Cossack, Muscovite, Polish, Hungarian, Wallachian and Greek) punctuate the narrative (in ballad-singer style) along with four brass sonatas, a gigue and a closing sarabande. English versions of the texts would have helped... German texts. Markus Miesenberger (tenor), Ars Antiqua Austria; Gunar Letzbor.
