Description: This composer succeeded Buxtehude as organist in Lübeck in 1707 where he wrote almost exclusively sacred music. The twelve concertos from which those recorded here come date from his years in Hamburg (1702-06) and are for three violins, three oboes, bassoon and continuo. In five to seven movements, opening with a French-style overture, they not only have the tang from having three oboes present but are also colored in these recordings by added percussion.
