VASILY KALINNIKOV (1866-1901): Serenade for Strings in G Minor, LEOŠ JANÁČEK (1854-1928): Idyll for String Orchestra, EDWARD ELGAR (1857-1934): Serenade for Strings, Op. 20.

Description: The Kalinnikov is a single‐movement Andantino of barely nine minutes. Light on its feet, with a waltz‐like flow and much delicate pizzicato writing, it makes the most out of a single theme full of spring‐like freshness and optimism. It’s not otherwise available on a single disc. The early (1878) Idyll by Janáček is not over-recorded either so, at budget-price, you may just be able to forgive the Elgar coupling. Orchestra da Camera “Ferruccio Busoni”; Massimo Belli.
