Description: We’ve had the stylistically neo-classical Sinfonia with its strong flavorings of Slavic folk-music before from Koch Classics (reissued a few years ago by Guild). Kletzki’s four-movement, 45-minute work was premiered the very same year (1928) and is firmly in the German Romantic-Expresssionist camp of Richard Strauss and Mahler, the latter especially figuring into the affect of the baritone’s song in the final movement where there are clear hints of Das Lied von der Erde. This symphony is big, big-hearted and emotional and very much the utterance of a gifted young composer. Now, can we have his First? Mariusz Godlewski (baritone - 4th movement of Kletzki), Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra, Katowice; Thomas Rösner.
