Description: The draw here is the 34 minutes of incidental music (25 individual "cues") which Elgar wrote in 1923.  This was the composition which helped him break the writer's block he'd been suffering since his wife's death and from which he intended to use elements for his third symphony. The music is melancholy and resigned, enhancing the mood of the play by Laurence Binyon (based on Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur) who was also the author of the texts of the couplings on this disc. The notes are lengthy and make good reading (not always the case) with 13 pages devoted to the Arthur music alone. Texts included.
