Description: It would appear that this constitutes most of Rufinatscha's piano œuvre although there is an early (1832) sonata not here and there are some two-piano or four-hand works which we may offer in the future on other discs from this source. What we have here dates from as early as 1835 (the Op. 3 sonata) to the unpublished Andante of 1892 - the very last thing he ever wrote. Stylistically, the works progress from conservative Viennese Classicism - Schubert and some instances of Czernyesque virtuoso passagework and obsessive use of scales - to a much less brilliant and much more Brahmsian solidity in his most mature pieces. 3 CDs. Marlies Nussbaumer (piano).
