Description: The first of two sets which will cover all Pierné's chamber music, this contains his two largest-scale works, the violin sonata of 1900 and the piano quintet of 1917, in both of which one can hear the combination of the melodic gift of Massenet and the cyclical form and structural weight of Franck while, beginning with the 1926 Sonata da camera, his language changes to a sparser, more linear, concise style which corresponded to the emerging neo-Classicism. 2 CDs. Soloists of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra; Christian Ivaldi (piano), Rémy Franck (speaker).
